People First, Then Tools

What became very evident when talking to participants of the report is that the most successful IT implementations/digital transformations happen when there is real ‘buy in’ at all levels of the organization, irrespective of the size of the company or IT project.

The key is to focus on the people part of the project rather than the new technology tools.

The technology will work when and if the culture within the company is supporting the work.

“Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” — Peter Drucker (often accredited to Drucker, rather than a verified Drucker quote).

The Irish Reality

Ranked 5th in the EU’s Digital Economy and Society Index, Ireland appears to be a digital leader.

But beneath this headline sits a “two-speed digital economy”: multinational firms operate at high digitalization levels while indigenous SMEs lag significantly.

The gap between larger firms and smaller indigenous companies remains substantial, highlighting that technology adoption without cultural transformation leaves many organisations behind.
